                 When a conference organizer or publisher wishes to gather articles or abstracts (often for a special publication on a specific topic), there will be a "Call for Papers." People interested in having their articles published will submit their papers as candidates for publication.
    that a professional organization or similar body is asking people to submit original, scholarly articles for review and consideration for publication.  A call for papers often happens as part the lead up to a major conference in which some of the authors may be selected to deliver those papers, that is, address the convocation based on their research into an issue of interest to the membership.
